Poem: farewell kiss

All at once
with her mind’s eye
she sees

through
resounding light,
her whole life.

Every breath,
each beat of her
heart.

The what ifs
and the should

in a farewell kiss.

For finally
she has learned
to live

most
intentionally,

most
unapologetically,

here
and
now.

dawn to dusk

Dawn didn’t bring her tranquility
anymore. Days passed by like skipped pages,
and nights brought perilous denouements.  She
tucked in with her screams caught in her throat like
a preparatory battle cry, and she woke with an excess of
freshly spilt tears, an aching body, and a heavier heart.
Triumphant.

here
is where
men hold their breath
and let their voices
sound in roars
over the
mind’s
eye.

I snapped this photo while hiking yesterday and felt like there was a poem in it somewhere. Short, but sweet… hope you enjoyed.

As always,

thank you for reading.

Hiccup

A single hiccup is like a warning sign,
like a memory being brought up from the
base of the body but not quite making it
to conscious thought.

Something once unpleasantly felt is venturing
up to escape past the tongue, only to be
swallowed accidentally like a piece of gum,
never to be remembered.
